Overlooking the Potomac River, the town of Indian Head is home to the Naval Support Facility Indian Head. The base, which specializes in gun and rocket propellants, has been in place since 1890. This area of Charles County was part of territory belonging to the Algonquin Indians, and it is
believed the name pays tribute to those original residents.

Love to get out? Indian Head is a great place to live if you like to stay active. Access the Potomac River for kayaking, boating, and fossil hunting; or bike, walk, or run the 13-mile Indian Head Rail Trail with stretches between Indian Head and Waldorf.

Indian Head is also close to the best of Southern Maryland and the surrounding area. The town is a short drive from National Harbor’s shopping, dining and gaming activities; shopping and government in La Plata and Waldorf; and the sights and sounds of Washington, D.C.
